Submissions

The Knell believes in community and the collective spirit of goodwill. In the coming weeks, we will be accepting submissions for videos that will be distributed exclusively through our social media channels on YouTubeFacebookTwitter and Instagram.

The Knell maintains two types of content:

1) Community: Independent, creator generated content.

2) Originals: Content generated and staffed internally by The Knell.

What are we looking for?

Bite-sized videos, all genres (drama, comedy, sci-fi, etc.) that are easily digestible on social media. Think 1-to-5 minute short films.

Who can submit?

Anyone! While The Knell strongly encourages female, LGBTQ, and creators of color to submit, we accept submissions from anyone who supports The Knell’s mission of diversity and inclusion. That said…

The Knell Challenge/Evaluation

The Knell has two simple self-evaluation challenges for creators:

1) The Bechdel-Wallace Test: Does my video have at least two [named] women, who talk to each other about something other than a man?

2) The Biddle Test: Does my video have at least two people of color and/or LGBTQ who are not relegated to cultural stereotypes?

While passing one of these tests is acceptable, passing both is optimal. The Knell assigns a simple letter grade (on an A-F scale) called a Knell Score based on our challenge criteria, with higher scoring videos receiving the most prominence.
